Obituary of Jill Adler-Moore

Please share a memory of Jill to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jill P. Adler-Moore, beloved wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, cousin, friend, scientist and mentor, passed away June 14, 2021 after a recurrence of pancreatic cancer. She is survived by husband Larry J. Moore, son and daughter-in-law Matthew M. Moore and Tina L. Moore; daughter and son-in-law Laura J. Moore-McClelland and Sean G. McClelland; grandchildren Colin A. and James E. Moore; and nephews and nieces-in-law Pattabi and Viona Seshadri, and Raghu and Jaleen Seshadri. Jill was a trailblazer in more ways than one: she was an avid backpacker, a scuba diver, and a dancer who experimented with incorporating immunologic process concepts into modern dance choreography. She and Larry lit up many a dance floor with disco lifts, and later, swing dancing. She skied, snowboarded, and camped out with family in the Mojave Desert. As one of very few women faculty in the Biological Sciences Department at Cal Poly Pomona in the 1970’s, she became a beloved “science mom” to generations of undergraduate and graduate students in microbiology and immunology, and dedicated her career to mentoring underrepresented minorities and women in STEM. Her research into medical mycology led to the invention of Ambisome, a life-saving antifungal drug. Jill’s travels span the globe, where she made friends everywhere she went, bringing stories and connections back to share with her family and circle of lifelong friends. A memorial service will be held online Monday, June 21, 2021 at 10am PST. If you have not received an invitation to the online event, please email Matthew Moore at 3m.moore@gmail.com *Attendance is virtual/online only.
