Obituary of Shirlee Peha

She passed away on April 14, 2024. She was 91 years of age. Shirlee grew up on Doublin Ave. in Leimert Park where, as a young child, she met her future husband of 70 years, David Peha, who lived across the street. After graduating from Dorsey High, she went on to LA City College. When David came home from the service, they married and started a family which was Shirlee’s number one priority. Her unwavering support and dedication to family was paramount in her life. She was very involved in the upbringing of her two boys, which was attested by her volunteer posts as PTA President, Den mother and the likes. She was always present with a helping hand. Shirlee enjoyed many hobbies, including making mosaics, reading, & needlepointing, but her favorite was knitting. Everyone in the family had at least one afghan made by Shirlee. She was also known for her highly coveted sweaters and baby blankets for newborns. Baking Sephardic foods is something Shirlee will always be remembered for. When she invited the family for dinner, it was inevitable that everyone would have leftovers for the week! She learned everything from her mother and in turn, she passed her baking wisdom on to her grandson. They would have baking sessions that would last for multiple days! Shirlee’s mind was always very sharp. She kept track of the family and continually cared for their health and well-being. She was truly remarkable during her last few weeks of life and questioned her doctors with no hesitation. She kept her wit, which brought smiles to the medical staff and her loving family! Shirlee is survived by her husband David Peha, her son Larry Peha, daughter-in-law Julie Peha, grandsons Sarkis and Michael Peha, granddaughter Jacqueline (Peha) Cohen and husband Zac Cohen.
