Obituary of Clare Schulberg
Please share a memory of Clare to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sadly, beloved Clare Laura Schulberg passed away August 30. 2023.
Clare was born December 12, 1946, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to Robert and Lorraine Schulberg. When she was 12, the family moved to Beverly Hills.
Clare was drawn to music at an early age and became proficient at piano. During high school, she was active as a singer in the school's Renaissance madrigal group and she fell in love with the French language, eventually becoming fluent. Clare earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1968.
After working in the travel industry for several years, as a local representative for the Tahiti Travel Bureau and a tourism director for American Express Travel, she went to graduate school at UCLA and earned her Masters in Business Administration. That led to her longtime position with the education branch of the Los Angeles Music Center connecting schools with performing artists.
Constants throughout Clare's life remained music, travel and all things French, including living in France for a while. And while she loved classical music, she also owned every Beatles album. Among the singing groups she performed with: the madrigal group, Oriana, Santa Monica College’s community Concert Chorale, the Mansfield Chamber Singers, the William Hall Master Chorale on its singing tour in Italy, the Cal Phil (California Philharmonic) Chorale at Walt Disney Concert Hall and the High Holy Days singers at Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills.
Over the last few years, Clare suffered from atypical Parkinson's disease, and recently, from lymphoma. She handled both with acceptance and grace.
Clare is survived by her brother, Peter C. Schulberg, Peter's wife, Beth, Peter's children, Haley and Robert, her devoted partner, Craig Woodson, wider family and many close friends from all stages of her life. She is greatly missed.
